CFT, Comhairle Fo-Thuinn, also known as the Irish Underwater Council, is an affiliate member of CMAS, the international umbrella organisation for recreational diver training organisations. Wexford Sub Aqua Club has been affiliated with CFT since 1972.
CMAS an abbreviation of “World Confederation of Underwater Activities” was formed in 1959 and as such is one of the oldest diving organisations in the world. Today, there are over 130 federations accross 5 continents. Jacques Cousteau was the first president of CMAS from 1959 until 1973.
